Auto-Generated (Hidden) Product

The app automatically creates a hidden BigCommerce product to carry the add-on price and inventory. When the customer selects this option and adds to cart, the hidden product appears as a separate line item in the order.

When to use

• You want the add-on to show as a separate line item on the invoice and in the order
• You need to track inventory for the add-on separately
• The add-on should generate its own fulfillment item (e.g., a physical gift box that ships separately)

How it works

When you set a value’s pricing to Auto-generated product, the app:

1. Creates a new product in your BigCommerce catalog with visibility set to Hidden, so it doesn’t appear anywhere customers can browse.
2. Sets the product’s price to the amount you enter
3. Links this hidden product to the element value

When the customer selects this option and adds to cart, the app adds both the main product and the hidden add-on product to the cart. The order shows them as two separate line items.

Setup

1. Open an element → Values tab
2. Click the value
3. Set Price type to Auto-generated product
4. Enter the add-on price
5. Optionally enter a product name — this is the name that appears in the order line item
6. Save — the app automatically creates the hidden product in BigCommerce

Managing the hidden product

The auto-generated product lives in your BigCommerce catalog as an invisible product. You can:

• Edit its price directly in your BigCommerce admin if needed (but the app’s price field won’t update automatically — update it in the app to keep them in sync). If you update the price in one place but not the other, the price shown to customers and the price recorded in your catalog will differ. Always make price changes through the app to keep everything consistent.
• Set its inventory if you want stock tracking for the add-on
• Delete it from your catalog to remove the add-on — but then the option value’s pricing will break; always remove the value from the app first

Notes

• The hidden product’s name defaults to the element label + value label (e.g., “Gift Options — Gift box”)
• If the hidden product is accidentally deleted from your BigCommerce catalog, open the option value in the app and click Save — the app will recreate it automatically.
