Add-On PricingExisting Product

Existing Product

Links an option value to an existing product in your BigCommerce catalog. When the customer selects this option, the linked product’s price is used as the add-on fee.

When to use

  • You already sell a product that represents the add-on (e.g., “Gift box” as a separate catalog product)
  • You want add-on pricing to update automatically if the linked product’s price changes
  • You’re managing the add-on product separately for inventory or reporting reasons

Setup

  1. Open an element → Values tab
  2. Click the value you want to link
  3. Set Price type to Existing product
  4. Search for the product by name — the app fetches matching products from your BigCommerce catalog
  5. Select the product — its current price populates the price field
  6. Save

How the price is applied

When the customer selects this option value, the linked product’s current price (from your BigCommerce catalog at the time the customer loads the page) is added to the cart. The storefront displays the price next to the option label.

Important notes

  • The price displayed is fetched at page load. If the linked product’s price changes after the page loaded but before the customer adds to cart, the older price shown on the page will be used — not the updated one. This is rare in practice.
  • The linked product is not added as a separate line item in the order. Only the price is used. If you need the add-on to appear as a separate line item, use the Auto-Generated Product mode instead.
  • The linked product should not be set to “Invisible” or “Disabled” in your BigCommerce catalog, or the price lookup may fail. In your BigCommerce admin, go to Products, find the product, and make sure its Availability is set to a visible state.
