Add-On Pricing
Add-On Pricing lets you charge an additional fee when a customer selects a specific option or enters text. The fee is added to the base product price in the cart.
Pricing modes
There are three ways to add pricing to an option:

| Existing product | Links to another product in your catalog; that product’s price is used | Options already managed as separate products |
| Auto-generated (hidden) product | The app creates an invisible item in your BigCommerce catalog to represent this add-on. When selected, it appears as a separate line on the order and can track its own inventory. | Add-ons you want to see as their own order line item, or that need separate stock tracking. |
| Per character | A fee per character of text the customer enters | Engraving, monogramming, custom printing |
Where to configure pricing
For selection-type elements (Dropdown, Radio, Button Group, Swatch, etc.)
Pricing is set per value in the Values tab. Each value can have its own price or mode.
For input-type elements (Text Input, Text Area)
Pricing is set in the element’s Pricing tab. Per-character pricing applies to the whole element.
For Switch elements
A single price is shown in the element’s settings — charged when the toggle is on.
How prices appear to the customer
The storefront displays the add-on price next to the option:
- Selection type:
Option label (+$5.00)or(+10%) - Per-character: A running total shown beneath the text input: “3 characters × $2.00 = $6.00”
When the customer changes their selection, the displayed price updates immediately without a page reload.
How prices flow to the cart
When the customer clicks “Add to Cart”, the total price includes:
- Base product price
- Sum of all selected add-on prices
The line item in the cart shows the final total price. You can also see the individual option values and their prices in the order detail in your BigCommerce admin.
Prices are saved directly in BigCommerce, so they appear correctly in your order management view, on invoices, and in any tools connected to your store.
